The Prettiest Ski Villages in Europe With Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks

Get your skates on!

It’s that time of year again when the slopes start calling! Europe is home to some of the world’s most beautiful ski resorts, and many of these resorts offer the added bonus of an open air ice skating rink. Now I don’t know about you but when I go skiing it’s not all about the slopes. I love to stay in a small village with character and history, cobble stones, lots of pretty scenes for photography and a festive atmosphere with plenty to occupy the non-skiers among us. There is nothing like spending the afternoon skating around an open-air ice rink in the village square, followed by hot chocolate ala a decadent Tolstoy novel. Here are five of the prettiest ski resorts in Europe with open air ice skating rinks:

1. Zermatt, Switzerland: Located at the base of the iconic Matterhorn, Zermatt is a picturesque ski resort that offers stunning views and world-class skiing. In the winter, the resort’s central square transforms into an open air ice skating rink, surrounded by charming chalets and snow-covered peaks. To get there, board the train directly from Zurich or Geneva airports.
